In 2015, a young Irish UFC fighter made a joke on late night television about perhaps one day getting in a ring with world class champion boxer, Floyd Mayweather. Little did Conor McGregor know that this throwaway statement would spark a feud spanning two years and culminating tonight, at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

Over the months tensions have been rising with both fighters exchanging very public jabs over social media. Though both expressed interest in ending this dispute in the ring, McGregor was bound by his UFC contract and Mayweather was already well into his retirement, the supposed ‘billion dollar fight’ appeared to be dead in the water.

In March 2017 however, everything turned around in the blink of an eye. Mayweather announced that he’d be coming out of retirement and by May, McGregor had gone on record to declare that he had signed his half of the agreement, the fight was on. Now it’s set to be one of the most profitable fights ever with the winner standing to win 100 million dollars and the prestigious ‘Money Belt’ created exclusively by the World Boxing Council (WBC) for the showdown, made of 1.5 kilograms of 24 carat gold; 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 160 emeralds and crocodile leather.

Though McGregor earned his official boxing license in 2016, this match will mark his first official debut as a boxer. Bookies the world over believe the odds are in his favour but there’s no denying that a MMA fighter turned rookie boxer taking on the 15 time world champ is one of the riskiest moves the world has ever seen. Of course in the octagon, McGregor has more than enough laurels to his name, reigning UFC Lightweight Champion and former Featherweight Champion there’s no denying he could make a deadly opponent. But will he be able to handle the restrictions of the ring?

Find out how this legendary fight ends on VEQTA Sports, the only official live stream in India starting at 8:30 am IST on the 27th August.
