On Sunday, April 16, the long-awaited Vistadome coaches between Visakhapatnam and Araku stations were flagged off for trial runs by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Prabhu tweeted photographs of the futuristic coaches that, according to reports, cost INR 4 crore for the four that are part of the trial run. “Flagged off trial run of new Vistadome coaches between Visakhapatnam and Araku,” tweeted Prabhu. “The coaches are equipped with observation lounge, Infotainment system, wide side door for Divyangs, automatic sliding compartment door,” he added.
From what Prabhu shared, other than providing a panoramic view of the journey, these air-conditioned coaches feature LED lights, rotating and reclining seats, automatic sliding doors and a multi-tier luggage rack. The Vistadome coaches look magnificent and, as per the Economic Times’ report, will roll out for passengers by Thursday.
The Vistadome is only one among many of Suresh Prabhu’s upgrades to the Indian Railways. Under his reign as Railway Minister we’ve seen some radical changes such as bio-toilets, public wifi, a women’s safety app and braille signages on coaches, among others. He’s even actively responded in real time to people in need on a number of occasions.
