Now entering its 14th edition, Closenberg NYE returns as one of South Asia’s most enduring New Year’s traditions — a coastal convergence of music, art, movement, and meaning. Set in the 1860-built Closenberg Hotel, a cliffside mansion overlooking the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, surfing hotspot Dewata Bay, and the Ramayana's mythical Rumassala Mountain, this isn’t just another party — it’s a ritual in rhythm, a celebration of connection.
By the sea and under the stars, travelers and locals reunite in rhythm — across generations, languages, and gardens filled with sound, to step into the new year.
This year’s edition deepens the vision, widening the musical scope and experiential offering — with three immersive stages, a signature gala dinner, curated food stalls, bespoke bars, and an international lineup curated with warmth, intention, and groove.
Behind Closenberg NYE 2025 is a trinity of creative collectives shaping Sri Lanka’s coastal cultural fabric in their own distinct ways:
Tropical Wax is the sonic soul of the event — a vinyl + surf powered culture and lifestyle platform born in Sri Lanka and now spanning pop-ups, residencies, and collaborations across the region. With roots in crate-digging, curation, and community-building, Tropical Wax brings a layered sensibility to events — one that honours dance music history while embracing its future, always with a touch of analog magic.
Soul Temple bridges surf, music, and inner work. As a boutique lifestyle platform and travel collective rooted in the oceans of the South, they bring in years of intimate experiences across coastlines, from curated music retreats to artisanal cafe culture. Their presence at NYE grounds the experience in the laid-back freedom of surf life, while infusing the weekend with heart and community.
Good Story has long been a cultural anchor across Sri Lanka’s southern coast — from building surf culture and hospitality ventures to nurturing a global music community that connects Ahangama to Moscow. With a strong vinyl identity and ties to the Russian and Baltic underground scenes, their involvement adds deep selectors, global flavour, and that unmistakable dusk-to-dawn dance floor consistency.
Set under the stars on a crescent-shaped infinity terrace, Luna Terrace is the night’s sonic spine — a place where dancers reunite with groove and gravity. The music traces a journey across genre and geography, from disco to Detroit techno, deep house to UK bass, carried by the warmth of analog sound and vinyl rituals. This is where we gather to watch the moon rise — and again to greet the sun.
Inside the historic mansion, The Fernery is a lush, living room of leg-shaking groove. Coral sculptures, Burma teak, and wild ferns set the tone for an indoor dancefloor steeped in intimacy and invention. Think chill rave atmospheres, textural deep house, and steady BPMs that turn movement into meditation. Where rhythm meets refuge.
The newest portal opens with intention. Tucked behind the mansion, Studio 1860 marks the official launch of the Tropical Wax studio — a soft-lit zone for ambient drift, sonic decompression, and creative ritual. On NYE, it hosts a live meditative set from Samamukthi Collective, a six-piece ensemble blending sitar, synths, guitar, and bilingual spoken word into a slow-burning ceremony. Lay back on paduru mats, let the body soften, and step into a different kind of high.
