Set up by architect and urban designer, Nidhi Batra in 2017, Sehreeti is a platform of ‘collective practices’ which help in engaging with the urban environment. It was set up with the vision that various professions including civil society shape our urban environment in both the natural and manmade spaces. The projects by Sehreeti are undertaken by urban development practitioners, ecologists, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, planners, designers, artists, policymakers, funders, governing bodies, private sector, real estate lobby, civil society, urban enthusiasts, and citizens at large. A non-government organisation built with a mission to nurture ‘engagement’ and ‘participation’ of all actors, Sehreeti has three main objectives to create an inclusive environment. It aims to build awareness and develop knowledge about urban environments, strengthen voices of multiple and interdisciplinary stakeholders, provide tools and methodology to engage with urban processes.
Sehreeti is engaged in knowledge and outreach through public forums and discussions, talks and seminars, webinars, blogs and podcasts. The organisation has also worked with GREHA and INDES on a ‘series of urban workshops’ on behalf of Mehrauli Collective. These workshops explored the relationships that people have with the historic urban environment of Mehrauli. Urban engagements by Sehreeti include projects in design, detailing and installation, (one of which includes the Janpath Metro Station in New Delhi for DMRC), ‘Sense of Place’ walkshop and the ‘Neighbourhood Awareness programme’.
Something that they are engaged in at the moment is the Green Growth Series, for which they are collaborating with The Urban Vision. Through this collaboration, they intend to exemplify sustainable ventures that have had ecology at its central theme, and those that have been able to formulate a vision for green economy and sustainable livelihoods. In the first episode of their series, they spoke to Arshiya Bose of Black Baza Coffee. They have an interesting line up of more speakers, with whom they would like to take up further discussions on the same.
In the next session of The Green Growth Series this Saturday, they are interviewing Vivek Tandon of perPETual Global Technologies.
