This Progressive Video For Vicks Is Everything India Needs Right Now

India’s relationship with LGBTQ rights leaves much to be desired. From daily interactions to legal altercations the community is fighting a daily battle for acceptance. No one knows this pain better than Gauri Sawant, a transgender woman trying to raise her adopted daughter Gayatri in a world that doesn’t acknowledge her choices. Though transgender rights takes the spotlight it also brings to the fore the much-ignored topic of adoption which in India has always been a touchy subject. Though her struggle has been documented before the story has only become mainstream news in the last few days thanks to Vicks’ #TouchOfCare campaign and their heartwarming video.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan of Masaan fame the video reflects on the young girls’ past through her eyes. It describes the sweet, unpretentious bond between a mother and a daughter and will leave you teary eyed and with a strong desire to phone home. It’s amazing to see such a controversial topic being given so much love across the country and we hope that it’s a sign of great change ahead.
