While differently-abled employees are now welcomed at several organisations, the pressing issue of their accessibility in the office campus remains as is. Physically challenged employees face several problems while moving about the workspace, given the lack of ramps, toilets meant for the specially abled, and appropriate signage, to name a few. While it is crucial that all work environments should contain these essential elements to aid the movement of the differently-abled, there is a dearth accessible workspaces throughout India.
The city of Hyderabad, nicknamed Cyberabad, is doubtlessly central to the development of India’s information technology (IT) industry. In this scenario, the world’s first IT park dedicated to specially abled employees is set to be developed in Telangana. Over a land measuring 10 acres near Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport, the complex will be the result of a public-private partnership as announced by the State Government on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons 2017 earlier this week, reported India Today. The complex shall have facilities for training, residential quarters and delivery centres for domestic and international clients.
As reported by the Times of India, this IT park will create jobs for 2,000 PwD (Persons with Disability) over the next five years by providing them with not only the necessary training but also the subsequent jobs. Additionally, around 2,000 children with disabilities of Classes 1to 10 will be dispensed with pre-matric scholarships and 500 PwDs will be covered under economic rehabilitation scheme so that they can also set up self-employment ventures with the help of bank linkages.
This initiative by Telangana Government to set up the first IT park in the world that caters specially to the specially abled is a matter of pride for the entire nation.
