Tourists Can Go To Bhutan For A Day Without Permits, Here's How
As an Indian national, we only know too well the struggles of obtaining a visa for even the shortest trip to countries we desire. The constant waiting in line, hoping above all that you got all your documentation together and no paper is out of place. You can only imagine the relief when you're allowed to visit a country sans visa, a country as beautiful as Bhutan. There are two ways to go to Bhutan; by air or by travel. While you do not need a visa, a passport is required at all times, with your driver's license and some spare passport photos for safety.
People hoping to travel to the magical country of Bhutan can now do so without a permit, as long as it’s a day trip. Thanks to an initiative by the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Association (IBFA), tourists can now travel to Bhutan from Darjeeling. According to The Viral Shots, There are six different paths to Bhutan from Darjeeling, all of which are currently closed. In a report to the Times Of India, The Indo-Bhutan Friendship Association hopes to get permission from both the Indian and Bhutanese government so that tourists can use all the paths with permits by October. Requests have been sent to the Indian and Bhutanese ambassador in India.
Currently, these paths go through Tode or Bindu in Kalimpong, Lalbasti, the Jiti Tea Estate in Nagrakata, Banarhat and Birpara. This involves tourists entering Bhutan through the border town of Phuentsholing and travelling to to Thimpu and the capital, Paro. If the efforts pan out, travellers will be able to enjoy the natural beauty of Bhutan, as well as help with with a tourism boom.
