Surpassing the yellows, greys and subdued neutrals of a generic Fall-Winter Collection, artisanal couture brand Cord Studio has finally unveiled its Shapeshifters statement pieces to assuage your seasonal blues. Earning credibility for their hand woven leather bags and intricate patchwork apparel, this homegrown venture by founders Neha Singh and Pranav Guglani conceived back in 2015, has come of age recently by imbibing vintage quilted embroidery and art nouveau prints that foster a spirit of individuality you can infuse into your travel wardrobe.
Dabbling in freak show kitsch from the 60s with flourishes of notched lapels and painterly block prints, this new drop is visually striking in its billowy pleated silhouettes and buckle fastenings. Their peerless creations flirt with organic fibres like poplin, cotton twill and corduroy in a bid to appear equally comfortable at high tea or a quaint railway station. Be it their Green Rock Zoey Co-ord Set with outdoorsy drawstring sleeves and sumptuous olive shoulders or the equestrian Lisbon Jacket flaunting lapel collars, an unabashed proclivity for experimentation and strong woman circus elegance pervades the label's design principles.
Other scene stealers that caught our eye were the Oversized Blazer in maroon and pastoral running stitches, their straight fit Bert Skirt with a cheeky bottom slit and the Denim Trench overcoat that makes layering seem less utilitarian and supremely flamboyant. From vibrant hues of traditional stamp check and tan patterns to subtle tones evoking the tranquillity of nature, each ensemble tells a story of its own.
One of the standout features this season is the brand's celebration of diversity. Cord Studio has consciously included a range of styles and sizes, ensuring that the collection is inclusive and accessible to a wide audience. By embracing the uniqueness of every individual in their editorial campaigns and choice of models from Archana Jain (director of PR Pundit) to gender-bending designer and aerialist Osheen, the brand promotes an aspirational ethos of empowerment and self-expression.
