When all we have seen while growing up are perfectly toned bodies with proportions that are considered ‘correct’, we are bound to feel insufficient if and when we don’t live up to them in real life –– but for what? Society will tell us to tug at our waist or work towards abs, but little does it know of the trauma each body goes through to get there.

26-year-old Zubin Sethi’s photoseries ‘Changing Bodies’ explores the relationship of people with their most natural self and their bodies that remain in a constant state of change. Having a positive relationship with one’s body is not the easiest ask –– but this photoseries shows us why it’s important.

“I have admiration for the human form and I realised my desire to do boudoir photography was less to do with the erotic nature of it and more to do with my struggle with my own constantly changing body. Which is why, I wanted to work with people that were comfortable with me capturing the changing nature of their bodies in a collaborative effort to explore our constantly changing bodies that impact us on such a deep level,” says Zubin.

His first collaboration is with Freyja, who helps the lens capture not just visuals, but the emotions, struggles and triumphs, as well. Zubin’s process of creating art, too, helps make the photoseries what it is.

He explains, “My process is simple, and it is very conversation based. I try to capture the mood of the conversation as best as I can and I guess one may say that the purpose comes through the conversation.”

‘Changing Bodies’ does much for not only showcasing real human bodies, but also help realise that the world itself is not one-size-fits-all –– we truly hope that Zubin and Freyja’s genius is as visible to you as it is to us.
