“Ramadan is the month whose beginning is mercy, whose middle is forgiveness and whose end is freedom from fire.”
The 9th month of the Islamic Calendar is considered most spiritual by many. And in the face of the community’s unfairly beleaguered nature in the world today, there is perhaps more beauty and power in this tradition than ever before. A spiritual month of abstinence that is bound to provoke reflection not only for those who practice the Islamic faith but also for those who exist on the peripheries of it.
Unlike most other major religious occasions around the globe, the image of Ramadan is not one designed to evoke a sense of hedonistic celebration. Rather, its subtlety draws on the sheer strength of human spirit and the beautiful restraint of will power.
In honour of the same, we continue our ‘Around The World Series’ with this collection of stunning images of Ramadan in all its many forms from across the globe.
