The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival hits the city later this month, promising to be a fantastic week of all-things cinema – featuring fresh and compelling new stories, and captivating visuals, including works by Rima Das and Aijaz Khan. The Festival also hosts panel discussions and masterclasses with film icons like Monica Belucci, Anurag Kashyap and Kaushik Roy. Organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI), the Festival will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
For aspiring filmmakers and movie buffs, it will be extra special this year as the Oscar-nominated director of Black Swan and Requiem For A Dream, Darren Aronofsky, will be conducting a film-making masterclass alongside Anupama Chopra.
Aronofsky is known for his visually haunting, surreal and often disturbing films, frequently with the use of tight close-ups, long tracking shots and time-lapse sequences. He has established himself as a radical, inventive voice in Hollywood and as an independent filmmaker. His most recent film, Mother! is hailed as having one of the most ambitious storytelling techniques in cinematic history. His unique and thrilling filmmaking style is definitely worth learning from, so do join Aronofsky for a class that promises to be as insightful, engaging and a lot of fun.
“I am excited to return to India, a country I have enjoyed as a tourist many times in the past,” Aronofsky said. “I’m looking forward to filling my eyes, ears and all my senses with the beauty of Mumbai. I have heard the Mumbai Film Festival is a world-class event and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
