As the creative juices of young, upcoming artists continue to flow, the avenues for them to showcase their talents are multiplying. The wildly innovative and insightful artworks of India’s young creators deserve much appreciation, and today we’re proud to recognise the raw talent and refined hand of one of our own. A former intern at Homegrown, Furqan Jawed, was featured on Design Taxi, showcasing his prowess as a designer and illustrator in a nuanced series ‘A Poster Everyday.’
The series was born out of everyday things that people say, and these unguarded, natural spoken thoughts became Jawed’s inspiration. “I was in Bombay, and I wanted to work on a project alongside my internships. I’ve always liked working with posters and typography, so I decided to do this. Everyday I would hear someone say something that I thought was catchy, and I could visualize it as a poster. I’d think about it all day, and work on the imagery in the night,” he explains.
Jawed’s work is a visual and aesthetic treat, as well as a compilation of simple, but universal thoughts that most urban dwellers can relate to. And his attention to detail and insight can be seen in his other works too. Taking on a more imperative and socially-conscious issue, his ‘Bad Girls’ poster series uses humour and satire to point out the cookie-cutter ideals set for women, and the glaring gender double standard in Indian society. As a student of Bangalore’s Srishti College of Art, Design and Technology, Jawed has already taken great strides in the world of design and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
