The only language that every person, no matter what ‘language’ or ‘languages’ they speak, write or read, is that of art and creativity. Art transcends all regional, temporal, spatial, and generational barriers and reaches out to everyone. Coupled with technology, art has become stronger, bolder, and a lot more courageous than before, and who knows it better than our #HGAcademy mentor of the day, Osheen Siva?
An illustrator, muralist and a visual artist currently based in Goa, India, Osheen experiments with digital as well as traditional mediums. Having grown up in a mixed environment between Taiwan, China and India, her works have a strong cultural significance. The language of her art is fierce, bright, and carries a strong flavour of mixed tradition. Gender and its intersection with society and technology in junction with nature, cosmology, dreams and nightmares play a major role in her works as well.
She has previously partnered with The New Yorker, Vans, Converse, Levis, and LennyLetter amongst others.
For those of you who have recently tuned into Homegrown, welcome! I hope you’re enjoying what we put out there for you, and here’s a little something about #HGAcademy.
At a time when our physical spaces are confined and movement is stifled, the only constant in our lives is our own creativity. For a while, we, at Homegrown have been toying with the idea of evolving our platform into a space that inspires generations to believe that their career paths are not limited to those shaped by our society and that there is a world out there that where creative industries are thriving. Our sole motivation behind this attempt is to shift the needle in the Indian creative industries. This is where the idea of HG Academy comes to fruition.
The sessions at HG Academy see digital festivals, skill-building sessions, new personal & professional strategies and similar efforts towards connecting you to the world of creators to learn and be inspired. The aim is to deep-dive into the creative process, new ways of learning, re-imagination of old ways and experience and learn more. As we spend our days inside our homes and within ourselves, HG Academy with its commune of creative thought leaders and pioneers teach you the basics that you might not get access to elsewhere. We hope for it to evolve into a culture of creation, collaboration, discovery through an exchange of thoughts & ideas.
Our previous sessions saw pioneers from diverse fields share pertinent insights around topics such as—creating your own makers’ space, starting a career in esports, the art of theatre, photography, the art of watching films and learning from them, insights on the cannabis revolution in India, future of food & conscious consumption, and much more.
For this particular session, Osheen will talk about the art and the process of cultivating one’s own language of creative expression through Visual Art and Illustration.
