India’s First IKEA Store Is Finally Open!

As you grow up, it’s natural that your perceptions change. People, places, tastes, smell, it all evolves. For example, as a child, the very idea of a visit to the home section of a department store would have you dragging your feet and gazing wistfully in the direction of the books and toys. But now, as soon as the doors slide open in a whoosh of air-conditioned comfort, you make a beeline to the fluffy blankets and quirky light fixtures, now wistful that your home cannot accommodate all that beauty. Yes folks, it’s official. We are adulting (or trying to anyway).

Until now, trying to outfit your home in movie-style minimal glamour often becomes an endless chore of online shopping and weary roadside haggling, but come August 9, that’s all set to change. The great-granddaddy of affordable home products has opened its first store in Hyderabad. Never fear, IKEA is here.

This mega project spans 400,000 square feet of space, that’s a whopping 13 acres of home-decorating options! With over 7,500 products in their catalogue from local and international furnishing brands to explore you’ll definitely need to make a pit stop to refuel at some point, but IKEA has you covered there too. The 1000-seater restaurant will serve healthy, delicious options from Swedish and Indian cuisine, including their legendary meatballs!

“In terms of the products, the company will be bringing its classic IKEA range along with a small percentage of locally relevant products for the Indian market like masala boxes, pressure cookers, tawas, idli makers, colourful sheets and mattresses made with coconut fibre centre. Customers will also be able to buy global classics like the BILLY bookcase, KLIPPAN sofa, LACK table and POäNG armchair among others,” IKEA said in a statement.

IKEA has always been one of the most recognisable and well-trusted names in home furnishing and we can’t be more excited about the store and their decision to expand their base. We’re already saving up for the splurge!
