An embassy at its finest is a little slice of the homeland in foreign seas. Creating such a haven can be a hard task considering myriad of elements that converge to evoke a sense of home, and finding such a space is a rare treat. The Delhi-based creative design and architecture firm, Ultraconfidentiel have spun their magic into the French Embassy in Chankyapuri to bring an air of European elegance to our capital city.

The idea was to create a fresh, modern space that would have a huge visual impact. They chose to go with a minimalist design with accents of blue, red and white to invoke the colours of the French flag. Project head Scott Devlin believes that the elements that truly embody a French aesthetic are the unique lines of the Roche Bobois furniture and the metal wall engraved with France’s timeless values ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’. This intricately laser-cut mural and the sheer amount of time put into creating this stunning art piece makes it Scott’s favourite addition to the project.

The most challenging part of the design was updating the space without losing the essence of the original structure. The Embassy was first constructed in 1987 and Paul Chemetoc, the architect behind its construction, is to this day revered for his work and keeping the spirit of his work intact was a priority. The harmony between the exterior facade and the contemporary interior showcases a mixture of clean lines and understated opulence that will transport you to the heart of modern day Paris.
