Meet The Chennai-based Artist Adding A Surrealistic Twist To Indian Film Posters

The films and pop culture of yore are being archived and preserved in increasingly creative formats today. In this regard, Prashanth C, an avid cinephile and graphic designer who shuttles between Bengaluru and Chennai is creating a distinct visual universe that induces nostalgia for yesteryear’s films through a mixed-media art project.

Going by the social handle, @apertureanecdotes, Prashanth’s work on Instagram is a varied blend of film posters, 3D collages, poster designs and more. Honing in on the influences that Tamil and global cinema have had on him, Prashanth actively creates futuristic pieces of work that are thought-provoking, nostalgic and aesthetically pleasing.

While minimalism in art may be a trend sweeping across the masses today, Prashanth revisits the essentials of maximalist, surrealistic art works as he expands on fragments of his imagination through visual prompts and cues, several of which are screen grabs from films or photographs that he has clicked over the years.

Several of Prashanth’s pieces are largely surrealistic and fantastical in nature. These pieces often represent a myriad of narratives brought together from films, books or photoseries that have inspired the artist.
