Mumbai To Get Skyscraper Made Of Rainbow-Coloured Shipping Containers

Shenzhen-based architect firm CRG Architects has proposed a radical building project for Dharavi, in Mumbai.
Called the ‘Container Skyscraper,’ the project will consist of two twisting towers made from over two thousand shipping containers that would be taken from the Mumbai Port. The concept is based on the principle of upcycling—taking objects that have outlived their usefulness and repurposing them to be used in another way. The first tower will have 139 floors, while the second will have 78. Both, however, will redefine the city’s skyline.

According to an article by The Creators Project, the idea behind the differing colour scheme is simple: it’s to combat Mumbai’s scorching summer. Chief architect Carlos Gomez told the publication, “We gave the warmer colours to the south side, and colder colours to the north side, reproducing colours of transition between each of them, along the east and west sides of the towers.”
When complete, the building will be able to house over 5,000 people. It will also have vertical gardens and entertainment areas, apart from other facilities.
