When it comes to the world of visual arts, India is a relative newcomer. It’s only recently that the country’s artists, filmmakers and musicians have dared to step beyond the tried and tested formulae when expressing their ideas. With the emergence of this visual liberation India boarded a wild ride into the new age of art, something best christened as ‘New Media.’ Technology was less of a mystery and became so intertwined with all artistic mediums that an entirely new avenue of possibilities was awakened. The EyeMyth Festival is a pioneering force in this arena, and on the 18th of August they bring ‘Future Fiction’ to life at Antisocial in Mumbai.
The event is split into two parts; the first consists of screening of award winning animation and live action short films from the EE British Academy Film Awards, presented by the British Council. The shorts being featured are The Party by Andrea Harkin, A Love Story by Anushka Kishani Naanayakkara, Mouth of Hell by Samir Mehanovic, Standby by Charlotte Regan, Tough by Jennifer Zheng and Consumed by Richard John Seymour.
The second part of the Future Fiction Event consists of audiovisual performances by emerging contemporary Indian Artists. The first are FILM feat. Alt-Q, whose sonic vision pulls together elements of house and techno with influences from Hip Hop and Jungle. He is accompanied by the visual collective Alt-Q, who craft a collage of moody, found footage from India overlaid with sound-reactive motion graphics. The second act is Strange Movements, a live AV showcase by Mumbai-based artists Spryk and thebigfatminimalist. Splicing various new media techniques, the duo have created an original 90 minute dance floor experience that immerses its audience in a world of sound and light.
The event is on the 18th of August at Antisocial, Khar. It starts at 6:00 pm.
