Mumbai, Watch Open-Air Movies By The Beach This Weekend!

Picture this – a sky full of stars, buttery popcorn, a cold beer, and comfy pillows, all while watching a movie you’ve picked to watch, with like-minded people. If you love the whole movie-going experience, but dislike the monotony of movie theatres, SteppinOut Movie Nights has your back. Sure, the concept of an open-air movie screening isn’t new, but they’re out to shake things up a bit by making things a bit more…homely.

Beanbags, mattresses, pillows and chairs are yours to choose from, on a first come, first serve basis. Sushen Kakkar, from SteppinOut Movie Nights, was frank about their concept, “We want to create a theatre experience for people, without damaging their wallets. We curate a specific menu for our movie nights, which normally includes your standard movie food – popcorn, nachos, sandwiches and more. Nothing on the menu is priced above INR 250. A full bar is kept stocked too, so you can grab a chilled beer if you’d like too.” Considering snacks at a theatre now can get more expensive than the ticket itself, perhaps a movie experience like this would be more than welcomed in Mumbai.

The movies to be screened are decided by a majority, on an opinion poll the company puts up on their Facebook page. “Since this weekend is the first time we’re hosting an event in Mumbai, we didn’t know what would work. So we gave people a wide range of movies to pick from, right from animated movies to thrillers. Ultimately Pulp Fiction reigned, presiding over all the other options by 200 votes!” said Sushen, amused by the love Pulp Fiction still garners, after all these years.

If this hasn’t convinced you as yet, besides the casual movie-going experience, SteppinOut Movie Nights has also collaborated with The Revolver Club, who will be hosting a pop-up store at the event. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning old vinyls of some of Tarantino’s work, you’re going to want to show up earlier. Sales for the same start half an hour before the movie, which is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
