Nitya Misra’s Short Film Observes The Creation Of Memories In Space & Time

The Wizard Of Oz got it right ––there really is no place like home. There is always an attachment that forms when you live in one place for so long. That much is evident in director Nitya Misra’s short film, ‘Out The Door 504’.

With her new documentary short, Misra bids goodbye to the home she lived in for 20 years with her family. Stitched together in a DIY style with phone footage and snippets of pop culture, the film is a love letter to a home that is observing a family prepare for change.“The film is an exploration of how we relate to spaces, how our emotions and memories get tied up in certain spaces,” explains Misra.

The short is narrated by Misra’s voice telling stories from her time in the house –– from her very first memory to the witch living in the elevator room. She explains being on the brink of a new start, but still spending 5 more years in the same place –– a feeling which many of us might be able to empathise with; with “itchy feet and a scratchy heart” as Misra puts it.

The film was an Official Selection at The Amsterdam Lift-Off Film Festival in 2021. Join Misra as she bids goodbye to the home she knew for 20 years and the version of herself that lived there.
