Between it’s narrow streets and crowded ghats, the holy city of Varanasi is one of the biggest sex trafficking centers of the country. ‘Gudiya’, a documentary film by Blush, uncovers the harrowing accounts of victims, and narrates the pursuit of the ‘Gudia Sansthan’, an organisation that has been rescuing trafficked girls in Banaras for the past 14 years.

The film delves into the exploitory nature of the heinous crime, and the atrocities that those trafficked have to face; from being abducted, gang - raped and injected with hormonal injections, to being objectified and sold to brothel keepers, the battle for their dignity is a gruelling one. The intertwined politics and hand-in-glove association of the abductors, brothel keepers and the police makes it almost impossible for any girl to escape this ruthless cycle, and the staggering numbers of victims is a testament to the lack of positive involvement of those in power. ‘Gudiya’ provides for some hard-to-digest facts of sex trafficking in our country, and empowers audiences with the story of those fighting for change. The film seeks to anger, and inspire voices to speak up against the trade, and chronicles the story of the husband and wife duo who are fighting against all odds everyday, in order to secure a future of the rescued victims.
