An Upcoming Indian Music Show Will Provide A Global Platform For Local Tamil Musicians

Vaaswat Sarkar

The popular Indian music platform, Coke Studio, backed by the world-famous beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola, is set to return to our country with its Tamil edition. This strategic move will not only increase the popularity of the brand in our country but also taps into the potential of regional music as the studio promises to launch seasons in the future featuring music in other Indian regional languages, as well. Coke Studio India had been quiescent for the last few years after the company was unable to market the property successfully. Our neighbor, Pakistan has been enjoying grand success with top-charting releases annually through Coke Studio Pakistan.

Apart from India and Pakistan, Coke Studio has properties in the Philippines, South Africa, Egypt, Bangladesh, and other countries. Artists collaborate across genres, often borrowing from local folk songs, to produce new music. Coke Studio Pakistan is the largest Coke Studio franchise globally, followed by the recently launched Coke Studio Bangla in Bangladesh.

India is very excited about Coke Studio Tamil as it will bring forth the talents of local artists. It will feature 25 versatile musicians including A R Rahman’s daughter Khatija Rahman, who is one of the best artists from the region. Coke Studio Tamil’s season one, with eight episodes, will be produced by hip-hop artist Arivu, and music producer Sean Roldan that will partner with a line-up of renowned artists such as Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, Gaana Ulaganathan, Carnatic vocalist Sanjay Subramanyan, playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada, singer Benny Dayal, Jhanu & the band, and OfRo, among several others.

The Coke Studio Tamil platform will enable us to celebrate the glorious diversity of Tamil music with the 80 million Tamil-speaking population worldwide. We are excited to partner with various talented Tamil artists and provide them with a global platform to showcase their breakthrough talent.
