5 People Die Every Hour In Delhi Due To COVID-19

Homegrown Staff

While the government might have accorded relaxations on the lockdown across the country, COVID-19 cases continue to surge.

Every hour, at least 5 people die of COVID-19 on an average in the capital, New Delhi, according to the state-wise report released by the Union Health Ministry on November 23.

According to the data released, a total of 511 deaths had occurred across India as of 8 am on 23 November with Delhi accounting for the largest amount of deaths at 121 fatalities. As of today, 25 November 2020, Delhi has a total of 8,621 recorded deaths.

India’s total coronavirus caseload stands at 9,222,216 as of today 8 am with total death tally reaching 1,34,743.

Amidst the surge in cases and deaths, it is important that those who have resumed their normal life continue to take precautions. Here is a list of things you can do to prevent the coronavirus from spreading as listed out by WHO (World Health Organisation):

  • Maintain at least 1-metre distance between yourself and others to reduce your risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak. Maintain an even greater distance between yourself and others when indoors. The further away, the better.
  • Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people.
  • Avoid the 3Cs: spaces that are closed, crowded or involve close contact.
  • Meet people outside. Outdoor gatherings are safer than indoor ones, particularly if indoor spaces are small and without outdoor air coming in.
  • Avoid crowded or indoor settings but if you can’t, then take precautions: Open a window. Increase the amount of ‘natural ventilation’ when indoors and wear a mask.
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently especially those which are regularly touched, such as door handles, faucets, and phone screens.
