Damsel in distress, till date happens to be the most cliche and predictable storyline/concept that has originated and revolves in almost every fairytale. On the contrary to the whole concept emerges Saumya Lochan’s de - stressed damsel, that is the epitome of girl power and challenging societal norms and regressing from the cliched concept of yearning and searching for male chivalry, it represents the dynamic unwavering spirit of sisterhood. It represents the era where women don’t hurl themselves at each other but rather garner support and admiration towards each other. The meaning and the designs develops a whole new perspective through the swatches of iridescence and the myriads of colour and the fierce dynamic in her designs.
“Being born and brought up to a family of government officers I have seen ambassadors and British quarters. The stories that I’ve heard from my mother are filled with nostalgia talking of her travel, huge bungalows and big family meals which have helped me paint my imagination.” She says with regard to where she derives her inspiration from.
“I like my work to have a sense of humour, a story and an impact. My inspiration stories are mostly personal which helps me translate those into something that almost have a part of me.”
“The bed time stories that my mother used to recite every night have a huge impact on me, my art and my imagination. Also, I remember playing Bhagat Singh in one of the first acts of my life, probably class 1 and the mic stopped working somehow but I continued to deliver my dialogues. Somehow this remains my favourite on-stage memory.” she recalls vividly when being questioned about the first time an artistic experience impacted and moulded her.
