Digital Love: Take A Look At India’s First Blockchain Wedding

Meghna Mathew

The world has not remained the same since 2020. Most of the events that have taken place since then seemed out of the realm of imagination. Adding to this is the concept of the metaverse and everything turning digital.

While the metaverse, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and more are fairly new concepts, they are catching up to the hype quite quickly. So much so, that last month we witnessed a couple celebrate their wedding reception in the metaverse, and we have now been introduced to another one that is India’s first to hold a ‘blockchain wedding’.

Post their court marriage, the couple from Pune, Shruti Nair and Anil Narasipuram, exchanged vows through the digital world, and also had the wedding officiated by a digital priest, Anoop Pakki. They also minted an NFT on OpenSea, the image for which was that of Shruti’s engagement ring with the vows embedded in the photo.

“Shruti and I made our marriage ‘blockchain official’ with an Ethereum smart contract that consecrated our commitment to each other in the form of an NFT minted on OpenSea.”

The uses for metaverse are far and wide, and we are witnessing just the beginning. With novel ideas such as this blockchain wedding, this one may just be the first of many!
