Fullarton Distilleries, a Goa based distillery recently launched “Woodburns Contemporary Indian Whisky’’. Created with the vision to break the monotony of Indian whisky, Woodburns represents an effort to put India on the map when it comes to 100% homegrown whisky without the fuss around it. A labour of love, this blended whisky is distinctively smooth on the palate, but packs a characteristic smokiness, which is rounded off beautifully towards the finish. This is a rich Indian malt whisky aged in charred barrels handcrafted by some of the finest coopers in the country. The magic lies in the union of the magnificent, bold whisky with matured oak wood barrels that are charred to perfection - forging bold flavors that kindle your curiosity and ignite your senses. Dark, delightfully distinct and dignified - this is a homegrown whisky you can truly appreciate.

The first product from their Indian portfolio, Woodburns Whisky recently won a Silver medal at the recently concluded International Spirits Challenge which is held in London every year. Determined to change the saturated market of whisky consumption in India, this homegrown whisky that one can truly appreciate : at a price point that is sensitive to the Indian market. The bold spirit is a 100% Indian whisky that offers exquisite complexity and finesse, that has long been awaited in the mass-produced Indian spirit market.

Sporting a distinct burnt edge label and a premium cork stopper, the whisky aims to bring the finesse of European design and packaging to the Indian market. On the tasting front, the nose has subtle hints of smoke and dark chocolate, with a distinct peat underlay. Rich and smoky on the palate, the whisky is built to deliver an extremely well rounded, smooth finish.

The whisky won a silver medal in the ‘World Blended Whisky” category at the International Spirits Challenge held in London, a competition which receives over 1700 entries across 70 countries. “We wanted to break the monotony of how Indian whisky is perceived,” said Rajiv Thadani, Director and Founder of Fullarton Distilleries. “Charring of barrels is an age-old practice that works dynamically. Each level of our process impacts taste, smell and appearance. We focussed on delivering a product that holds its own on the world stage. It’s our take on the traditional whisky with a modern and contemporary flare.”
