If there is one thing from 2020 that we won’t regret carrying into 2021, it is how we came to embrace slow fashion and upcycling as a norm. While we might have incorporated upcycled clothing into our wardrobes, why should our furry companions stay away from the trend?
Watching dogs strut around in cute jackets in winters is a sure way to lift your spirits after a bad day. If that comes at an added bonus of doing your bit in saving the environment, who would really mind?
For New York-based Rajeev Basu, inspiration came in the form of a grocery bag that came with the sticker ‘sleep.’ Realising that the pandemic induced lockdown had forced many to get their groceries delivered, Basu decided to start collecting these silver grocery bags that were functional and stylish but weren’t recyclable. Their sleepy pet dog Remy inspired this collection of upcycled grocery bags converted into fashionable dog jackets.
In an interview with DesignBoom, Basu commented, “It is fun seeing such an everyday household item that would otherwise be thrown away turn into something beautiful.”
The jackets are a part of ‘Between Two Naps’, a duo collaborative project between Basu and a New York based fashion designer that makes experimental and wearable objects for dogs. The upcycled jacket is tailored to fit with elasticised underneath and is waterproof. So, now even your dog can embrace the slow fashion lifestyle.
