Homegrown loves to celebrate the eclectic sounds of bands that transcend the boundaries set by genres. Today, we want to present to you the latest offering by a unique band that embodies a diverse range of influences and sub-culture. Pink Noise is the new project from the famous collective Kourtrajmé founded by big guns of the industry such as artist JR, actor Vincent Cassel, directors Ladj Ly (director of Oscar-nominated Les Misérables (2012) ), Kim Chapiron, Romain Gavras, rapper OxmoPuccino and others.
Having made a name for itself internationally, Kourtrajmé can be rightly listed as one of the most innovative collectives in French culture. Kourtrajmé is known for its eclectic creativity and unwavering commitment to innovation and representation. From their films to their music to their huge paintings on the walls of suburban buildings, whatever Kourtrajmé does, their actions and creations always demonstrate social criticism. What’s big is that they’re releasing a new track called Papa Belly on April 08.
The title and clip ‘Papa Belly’ is the complete paradox of the situation we are living in: 150 naked people in the same room, dancing and kissing each other to electro-trance music, in a way creating a parallel world. In his review, acclaimed director Kim Chapiron highlights that the strength of the video lies in how it assembles the fluidity of genres, the different sexualities, the beauty of unregulated bodies, the hedonism of crowds, and the ecstasy of serotonin. It is the visual respite we need in times when we are bereft of a physical connection.
The first thing that strikes one about Papa Belly is its other-worldliness. With social distancing at the core of our lives, a visual experience about physical and sensory connections almost transports one to a paralle reality. The sound accentuates the narrative and works with it to create a melange of euphoric beats. The tonality and vibrancy that Papa Belly brings with itself fills one with a lot of feelings, primary amongst those being respite from this current confinement.
Pleasure is at the core of the Pink Noise experience. Bodies move and almost primitively respond to the sound. Their natural instincts celebrate pleasure and create a space for these instincts to breathe, play, and thrive. Papa Belly is not just restricted to a unique sound. It marries ideas to visual to form to beat in ways that the final product is almost a boundary-less celebration of the primitive and sensual. The elements that work in synchronization to create the experience of Papa Belly take in to each other’s space to create this product that has you feeling uneasy, but never in a bad way. Papa Belly is a visual celebration of your wildest fantasies. It reminds you of this fantasy that was once possible and will soon be possible, hopefully, as you exist in a stoic reality. It replaces the unease of your limited reality with the unease of unlimited possibilities and for the duration of this experience, you can escape.
The aesthetic is hypnotizing: three and a half minutes that force us to question ourselves about the limits of gender and physical norms, as also about all the prejudices and stereotypes that can be seen on the networks during this confinement. These actors, musicians, and directors want to invite people to reflect on these judgments and prohibitions, showing the nudist liberated in an aesthetic way and offering a moment of digital love. Papa Belly is a story of a young boy walking completely naked in a hallway filled with graffiti. His instincts tell him that something fascinating is going to happen in these adorned hallways. He enters a mystical secret area that celebrates pagan beats and believes in loving one’s neighbor. He experiences a cohesive sound and energy which is infectious and resonant of ethereal energy and sound. Immerse yourself in this unique sensorial experience.
