Homegrown Staff

Guidelines for home isolation of very mild and pre-symptomatic COVID cases have been disseminated by the Ministry of Health. Under the guidelines, a patient can stay at home but will have to be in touch constantly with the District Surveillance Officer, and a hospital and will have to sign an undertaking. A person would be eligible for home isolation only if they are assigned as a very mild case by the presiding doctor.

They can end home isolation only when they are clinically assigned to be free from the virus after laboratory testing.

Here some of the steps for a safe home isolation.

1, Don’t share personal items with other members.

2. Strictly follow the physician’s instructions and take your routine medicines as prescribed by your doctor.

3. Self monitor your health and inform your physician or BMC ward room if you develop any deterioration of symptoms.

4. Clean surfaces in the room that are touched often (tabletops, doorknobs, handles, etc.) once or twice a day with 1 per cent hypochlorite solution.

5. Wash your hands with soap and water at least for 40 seconds using seven steps of hand washing. Ideally, wash hands every 2 hours / before and after eating / after using the toilet / and whenever hands look dirty. Use dedicated clean hand towels for drying your hands.

6. Take adequate rest 7-8 hours a day.

7. Drink lots of fluids to maintain adequate hydration. Water intake: 8-10 cups.

8. Steam inhalation and warm water gargles.

9. Eat a healthy high protein diet, with three meals per day, containing adequate vegetables and fruits.
