Any form of art stems from a place of personal experience. Music, thus, can be cathartic both for the listener and the artist. For Harshit Misra, popularly known as ‘Hashbass’ – a renowned bassist in the Indian indie music circle, music became a means of making sense of a personal loss. His debut single as both an independent artist and producer on the track is a tribute to his late mother who encouraged him to pursue music.
To commemorate his mother’s first death anniversary, Harshit is releasing his single on 20 October 2020. “For Anita is a song for my mother Anita Misra. It is also a song that represents the love, care, affection, strength, fight, pain that she went through, and is for every other mother who just gives selfless love to us children. ... It is also a song for all the people around the world who came together to help me and my father to save her, pray for her, or just be there on the journey for this strong woman with the most brilliant smile,” shares Harshit who has collaborated with Shubha Mudgal (his mother’s favourite artist) on the single.
Shubha Mudgal’s aching voice with Warren Mendonsa aka Blackstratblues on the guitar, Nikhil Mawkin on drums, and Hashbass on Bass/Keys and synth adds to the mood of the song that is at once melancholic, warm, healing, and soothing.
To further honour his mother’s life, Harshit intends to contribute all the proceeds from the album towards the Anita Misra Memorial Trust (Regd.) that has been set up to support underprivileged families unable to access pre and post-surgery medical relief.
For Anita, releases this Tuesday on 20 October 2020 via all major streaming platforms. You can pre-save/pre-order the single here.
