Travel Back To The 70s With This Kolkata Tram Converted Into Restaurant

Samiksha Chaudhary

There’s nothing more quintessentially Kolkata as the yellow taxis and the tramcar. For almost 150 years now, the iconic tramcar has been plying the streets of Kolkata, retaining the old-world charm of the city. Now with Kolkata Streetfood launching an outlet, you can dine inside a tram too.

Sitting just outside Mother’s Wax Museum, near Gate Number 2 of New Town’s Eco Park, one that houses the replicas of the 7 Wonders Of The World, a refurbished tram compartment has been converted into a quaint eatery.

The ambience is modelled to transpose you to the nostalgic old-world charm of the city and is an ode to the patrons of the city. It is not just the inside of the eatery that has an old-world vibe but also the surroundings that have been given a 1970s Calcutta makeover and touched up with illustrations of yellow taxis, double-decker buses, rickshaws, cartoons, old film posters, and much more.

Even the dishes they offer, evoke a palpable sense of nostalgia; serving a variety of Kolkata (the birthplace of the Indian-Chinese aka desi Chinese) specialities and classics like singara, chowmein, chicken stew with bread, papri chaat and khasta kachori to name a few.

If you want a slice of Kolkata, there isn’t a better food experience than this!
