It’s not news that Uber has taken the Indian market by storm - heck, the word itself is a verb now. As expected, Uber continues to dominate the Indian market with their announcement of introducing UberMOTO, a bike sharing service set to launch in January 2017 in Hyderabad.
Travis Kalanick, Founder and CEO of Uber said, “I am excited to be in Hyderabad for the launch of uberMOTO. It’s a quick, easy and affordable way to get around the city. And it’s great to be working with a progressive, forward-thinking government like Telangana on smart mobility solutions that can help reduce congestion in urban areas,” as found on BGR. This move makes UberMOTO the most affordable means of transportation Uber has to offer with prices as low as Rs. 20 for the first 3km and Rs. 5 for every km there on forth, as reported on YourStory.

Riders will be able to request a ride in the same way that the app works currently. All the regular safety features are available, such as two-way feedback, GPS tracking, and the option to share trip details with a safety contact. UberMOTO will also provide helmets for the riders - keeping in line with all standard safety procedures. As it stands, UberMOTO is available in Gurgaon, Bangalore and Ahmedabad - all cities struggling with the perils of traffic. This is also the most fuel-efficient way for an individual to travel, making it a sensible choice all the way around.
The Telangana government has steadily embraced the advent of technology and has gone so far as to sign a MoU with Uber to expand the reach of the metro using UberMoto. It’s high time cities like Bangalore and Gurgaon to follow suit, and ensure that development is in sync with technological progress and accessibility.
