Boomranng Studio's Cosmicpunk Designs Are Giving The Art World A Colourful Punch

When it comes to Instagram, there is no dearth of talent across its creative playground. From photographers to creators to digital artists; all lend their unique stylistic voices with a distinct visual grammar doing the talking.

Across the expanse of Instagram’s artistic community lies, Boomranng, a design studio that is a vibrant sensory burst of personality and colour inspired in equal measure by Indian culture, pop art and fantasy folk.

Founded by Sonal Vasave and Makarand Narkar, the multidisciplinary cosmic-punk design studio in Mumbai seems heavily inspired by mythology, fantasy folk and a sense of magical realism. They described themselves best once as ‘exhibitors’, for the Gaysi Zine Bazaar, where they had said, “बूमरंग is our own Desi fantasy. An explosion of colours and creativity.”

Since their inception, that is exactly the vibe that their designs have managed to exude; a seamless blend of sci-fi fantasy and desi pop-art. Also in certain artwork, what seems at the core of their creative philosophy is retrofuturism, which is essentially taking ideas of the future that were dreamed of in the past.

An ever-evolving design studio, they’ve worked with the likes of Nike, MTV and other such brands and also work with independent artists for album covers, music posters et al. Whether it is illustrations, animations, comics, music, fashion or AR, they’ve got it all covered.
