In the wake of the lockdown, artists are suddenly left at home physically disjointed from their muses and creative locations and are now using digital tools to make the whole world their canvas.
One such artist, Bangalore-based photographer Allwyn Antony, is improvising and shooting his muses via FaceTime. Digital platforms have helped us transcend the boundaries of plausible connection and have opened up infinite creative opportunities even as we find ourselves feeling limited and confined. Allwyn’s portraits prove to us that expression and creation will find a way to thrive even in the darkest of times.
The photographer says that days spent in isolation are tough but neither distance nor lack of physical connection can inhibit creativity. His images travel through multiple lenses and screens to offer respite to us via our own screens as we sit holed up at home. Interestingly, the models are based in different cities all over the country and diverse themes have managed to seep into the visuals as Allwyn takes the simplest of ideas to create magic with the resources at hand. A ‘new normal’ is emerging as we learn to navigate life during a pandemic and we look forward to seeing artists improvise and innovate as major parts of the population lean on the arts for hope and inspiration.
