In yet another remarkable feat by the Indian art community, graphic novel illustrator and visual artist, Anand Radhakrishnan has won the prestigious Eisner Awards in the category of Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art) in 2021.

The Eisner Awards were founded in the year 1988 by American comics editor David Olbrich as response to the discontinuation of the Kirby Awards in the year 1987. Winning an Eisner is the graphic artist equivalent of securing an Oscar as these revered awards are announced each year at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Radhakrishnan who shares this award with UK-based colourist John Pearson was recognised for his collaborative work on UK-based author Ram-V’s graphic novel Blue in Green which was published in the latter half of 2020.

The mixed-media images were created using a combination of pencil, ink, and acrylic paint to reflect the inner conflicts of a troubled musician in his pursuit of professional success. The Mumbai-based artist’s extensive work with illustration and comics rose to instant fame post the announcement.

Radhakrishnan is currently working on his next graphic novel which is set to release this year.
