St.Art Delhi: India's Biggest Street Art Festival

Admin

Perhaps the word has spread by now but even as i write this, the Street Art movement in India has just set a new milestone with St.ART Delhi; a catalyst for a hugely prolific future even. In case you’ve been out of the loophole however, St.ART Delhi just happens to be the biggest street art festival our country has ever seen. How exactly it has earned that title is explained further below:

St.ART Delhi is a joint-venture between Indian & International street artists who are taking over massive wall spaces in three places in Delhi, and changing the urban city’s landscape into a permanent walking art gallery.

Over the years, we’ve certainly had our share of various international artists leaving their mark (in various spots) across India while they travelled as documented in one of our previous articles. But this is the first time when so many artists from across the globe are congregating in one spot in India to help push this street-art movement.
The organizers of the festival believe that the power of street art lies in the influences that every artist absorbs from the street and re-works it with his/her unique spin. Street artists develop a way that is strongly rooted in mural art, and ar form that has the immediacy in the manner in which it reaches the public. Some of the questions St.Art hopes to address include:

1. What elements go into the production of a Mural?
2. What are the influences that an artist experiences in the city which he/she works in?
3. How do street artists create a dialogue with the surroundings in which they work ,and how does this differ from their studio practice?

Those are the questions that will crop up among the event, which for this purpose will be completed with the first ever Street Art exhibition in India at Social Space, 12, Hauz Khas Village, Above smoke house Deli, New Delhi, Delhi-110016 called Social Space in Hauz Khas Village.
The month-long exhibition will show works of major street artists from across the globe together with a selection of the best Indian artists providing an in-depth view of the “Phenomenon” of Street Art and on it’s history from Graffiti to Public Art.
