Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong’s ‘Impressions of Lodhi’ is an irresistible and vibrant work of art interpreting the daily lives of the Lodhi colony.
The 50-year-old accountant turned muralist, goes by the name of YC and is passionate about art and travel, “I travel to off-beat places to experience and be inspired by unique lands, their cultures and earth’s wondrous nature, often returning with many images captured in photographs and memories to further inspire my art.”
He painted the beautiful mural as a part of an Art Festival organised by St+Art India Foundation and sponsored by Singapore Tourism Board. This 10m high and 30m long piece took around 8 days of work and is located in block 13 of the Lodhi colony. While there are many worthy paintings in Lodhi itself, this is one of the few that manages to encapsulate several aspects of the simplistic lifestyle; from Bansuri wala(flute sellers) and mithai(sweet) shops, to a resting cow and a barber shop. This life sized and semi realistic mural is also interactive and can be seen connecting with the people passing by.
