Exploring Vintage Air India Posters From The 1950’s

Homegrown Staff

In our own attempt of initiating a sense of throwback, we discovered vintage Air India posters dating back to the early 50’s and 60’s, that bring back distinguished elements of the simple style of the past decades. The posters depict personalized themes contributing to each destination, offering comical references that possess a witty charm of their own.

The mascot, a “maharaja” appears in each poster, reinforcing the Indian identity of the brand as well as maintaining synergic consistency throughout the art work.  The prominent uses of colour, as well as personification of characters help in effectively articulating the cultural indications of the countries, providing a compelling visual to the consumer. Half a century subsequent to its inception, these vintage posters continue to offer a nostalgic value and timeless appeal.
