In the past decade, Indian television has made several attempts at bringing liberal content to households across the country through shows such as Balika Vadhu, which tackled issues of child marriage and widows in India. Unfortunately, just like Hum Log, the producers of Balika Vadhu buckled under pressure and TRPs and shifted their focus to adopting the age-old saas-bahu plotline wrought with deaths, rebirths and villains. We applaud the positive note on which Tamanna has started and hope that the producers won’t backtrack due to TRP concerns.
