Mumbai, Borrow A Book For Free From ‘The Open Library Project’

In a world where they say print is dying out (we’re still in denial), it’s always a joy to hear about independent libraries starting up in our city. Previously, we came across Delhi opening up a library in their metro with the simplest of rules — leave a book, to take a book. While this new venture in Worli specializes in non-fiction and business management books, they are trying to expand their section of fictional books.

Named ‘The Open Library Project’, the aim of the library is to spread knowledge and make it more accessible. They hope to reach out to budding entrepreneurs and people interested in garnering new skills or simply looking to educate themselves. From a shelf dedicated to The Life Library Of Photography to a great collection of artists and their work, the library has quite a bit on offer from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The library has two rules as of now. The first being that there’ll be no charge to borrow any book, but it has to be returned within 30 days. The second, the borrower must write a 3 line description of what they liked best about the book, so that more people can make an informed choice while choosing a new book. The library is also looking to source more books and are gladly accepting any donations to their growing collection.
