At the heart of India’s burgeoning sexual revolution lie the artists. The ones who speak fearlessly through paint and pen, sketching out the many possible futures in store. Among the youth, art has become the language of revolution and as it always has been, a mode of expression but for Kadambari ‘Kira’ Issar, it’s the centre of the universe. A 22-year-old resident of Bangalore, Kira previously studied at the National Institute for Fashion Technology but is now a triple major in Psychology, English Literature and Journalism. She combines her love for creating be it photography, styling, graphics or writing on her eponymous site, The Artwork Of Kira Issar. Here she displays her wide array of talents in the form of journals, badges and sticker sets.
One of our absolute favourite was her Orchid Erotica Sticker Set which celebrates the idea of the divine feminine. We have in the past explored the various terminologies for female masturbation and one of our favourites was always ‘airing the orchid’ which originated from the uncanny visual similarities between the flower and a woman’s hoohaa, something that Kira’s design plays on as well. In her own words “Creation in itself is a feminine ability, and therefore a vital force of our universe. If you look around enough, mother nature manifests this idea splendidly. Orchids having an erotic and exotic impression seemed like fitting subjects to explore this idea. India’s got a lot of work to get done with regard to feminine sexuality; but it’s a relief that the conversation has begun.” So ladies, if you feel like your self-love, sexuality and freedoms have been caged long enough, grab a pack of these stickers and paint the town Orchid.
