Coronavirus In India: Doctors & Flight Attendants Forcibly Evicted By Scared Landlords
In a shocking turn of events, reports have emerged of doctors getting thrown out of their rented apartments by landlords out of fear for the COVID-19. These landlords are scared that the doctors will bring back this infection with them from the isolation wards they’re working in. This is ironical considering how many people came out to show their appreciation for doctors and frontline medical workers on March 22.
“I’m DEEPLY ANGUISHED to see reports pouring in from Delhi, Noida, Warangal, Chennai etc that DOCTORS & PARAMEDICS are being ostracised in residential complexes & societies. Landlords are threatening to evict them fearing #COVID2019 infection. Pls don’t panic,” Vardhan said on Twitter. He assured people that all medical professionals take safety precautions while treating patients.
Numerous doctors took to Twitter to explain the harassment in detail.
The Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah grieving the numerous accounts of eviction and harassment meted out to them by the landlords and society members.
The Minister has directed the Delhi Police Department to take strict penal action against these landlords.
Flight attendants and crew members also faced similar harassment because of their travel history while on duty. IndiGo and Air India reported such instances of social ostracism meted out to their employees and strongly urged people to allow them to perform their duties in times of difficulty.
