Coronavirus In India: Face Masks Made Compulsory For Everyone In Mumbai, UP & Odisha

In an overnight decision, the State Government of Maharashtra, UP and Odisha have made masks compulsory for Government employees as well as all citizens stepping out for essential work.

Why should you wear a mask?

If you are stepping out of the house, there is a high risk of you contracting the infection from an asymptomatic patient as well as accidentally picking it up from unsanitised areas. You may also not display symptoms after contracting it. However, you will end up spreading it to others inside your house.

Curb the propagation, stay indoors as much as you can. Remember to wear a mask when heading outdoors and always wash your hands.

In Mumbai, BMC Commissioner has made face masks compulsory as a safety measure against the steady rise of coronavirus cases in the city. Masks are compulsory even if you are inside a car or other vehicles. All government officials have to attend meetings wearing masks and adhering to appropriate social distancing measures.

Those seen flouting the rules will be arrested and booked under Section 188 of the IPC.

In Uttar Pradesh, similar rules have been laid down amidst the chaos that ensued on 8th April after the government announced abruptly that they would be sealing COVID hot-spots in 15 districts of the state. The announcement resulted in large crowds gathering around grocery and medical stores. A lot of people were seen without face masks or any other protective gear.

The use of homemade masks is permitted in the event of non-availability of 3-ply masks.

Odisha State Government has urged its citizens to step outside their respective homes with face masks or a two-layer handkerchief. The number of cases in Odisha has risen overnight from 20 to 42. You can learn more here.
