Indian Love Beyond Its Societal Challenges: ‘India Love Project’ Features Inter-Faith Marriages

The world’s favourite Hulk, Mark Ruffalo once said, “Love conquers all – love is the grace that transcends any kind of injustice in the end.” Little does the superhero actor know that India functions much differently and that sometimes, even love takes a beating.

The Tanishq advertisement fiasco brought to perspective the fact that many Indians are yet to accept marriages that go beyond caste, faith, belief and gender — that marriage above all, is about love. Tackling this mindset is an Instagram page called ‘India Love Project’ by Priya Ramani, Samar Halarnkar and Niloufer Venkatraman.

The page gathers stories of real love that resulted in marriage, regardless of their differences in societal positioning. You will see tales of couples that disprove the fact that marriage is meant for people within a community. Their obstacles and efforts to overcome them in order to marry for love, and not for expectations are inspiring.

One such story is of Daniela Menichella, a devout Italian Catholic and Raj Awatramani, an Indian Hindu-atheist. They both continue to inculcate their cultures in their children’s lives in whatever way possible, proving to them and to others, that the difference in faith plays little to no part in their marriage. India Love Project features many more such stories.

In an age where multiple powers try to keep us divided, ventures such as India Love Project remind us of the beauty in remaining united – love is love, and love does conquer all, no matter how hard orthodox mindsets try to tell you otherwise.
