What’s In A Dream?: Siddhartha Bedi Attempts To Answer The Question
Siddhartha Bedi

How do you explain the concept of a dream to someone? Do we say it is a place you escape to when you fall asleep, or is it just you visualising your aspirations coming to life? What the tacky poster on our school walls said, however, is true – No dreamer is ever too small, and no dream is ever too big.

If there is any time to repeat this to yourself to get yourself to believe it, it’s the apocalyptic year of 2020.

Siddhartha Bedi, exploring this thought, has wowed us with the sequel to ‘My Sister And Hand Me Downs’, ‘My Sister And Dreams’. He goes beyond his sister Tanya’s weirdness and attempts to understand her dreams, however simple they may seem.

She dreams of ordinary things like playing Teen Patti with her cousins on Diwali and celebrating a special bond other than the one with her brother. But the more we speak of these dreams, we wonder, are they ordinary at all?

With visuals that draw you in and keep you engaged till the end (watch out for the Jojo Rabbit-esque dance sequence), Siddhartha’s new film is accompanied by an impressive instrumental cover of Beirut’s Elephant Gun by singer and songwriter Shirish Prakash Singh.

We never thought meeting a friend, or finding a love interest would be something to dream of. Through ‘My Sister And Dreams’, Siddhartha and Tanya show us that it is what life is likely to continue as. Hopefully, as the film conveys, we continue to celebrate them just as highly as Siddhartha’s dream of winning an Oscar. Dreams can never be ordinary, after all – maybe, that’s just what we convince ourselves to believe.
