When creative minds are backed into a corner with little to no resources or means to create art, the situation can get sticky, to say the least. It either results in frustration or the creation of something brilliant – sometimes, even both.
‘Show Me The Way’ by XY was a lockdown brainchild. While Anirban Das and Mriganka Bhattacharjya make up the electronic pop duo, Abodid Sahoo directed and shot the music video that features Sourav Sharma. The dreamy music video was, hence, a four-way collaborative effort.
In his extensive recollection of how ‘Show Me The Way’ came to be, Abodid mentions that on one of the monotonous lockdown days, XY whipped up a song that deserved more than a stock footage video, and with a little inspiration from Mumbai’s purple monsoon skies, they prepared to create magical visuals.
In multiple ways, the song itself gives way to the life and enthusiasm of the video. With solid Cigarettes After Sex vibes, XY’s genius track does itself justice in music and in visuals.
Abodid says, “This project is a hallmark of a collaboration of like-minded creative people. From the music production, styling, shoot, edit, and VFX, to the design of Album art and Social Media Creatives, everything was made amongst a close-knit bunch of 20 somethings with a lot of virtual collaboration over the internet.”
‘Show Me The Way’ music video is far beyond simply what’s pleasing to the eyes and ears. It is a testament to creative collaboration in times when coming together was nearly impossible. Anirban and Mriganka’s sound, Abodid’s vision, and Sourav’s presence interplayed beautifully to make the video what it is – meaningful, pleasing and awe-worthy.
