Tabeer: A Social Initiative Making The Magic Of Theatre Available To All

The arts provide a joy like no other — experiencing one’s creation, in whichever outlet possible, is a feeling that can hardly be compensated by others. An art form we hold to high regard is that of theatre –– fulfilling the character of a separate entity altogether, and convincing the audience of the same is not an easy feat.

Providing a chance to everyone to experience this very joy is Tabeer, a social initiative to make the art of theatre accessible to those that are underprivileged in India. Children and youngsters not as fortunate as many, are not only allowed, but encouraged to participate in theatre productions –– to allow them to experience a whole new realm of self-discovery and expression.

Founder and sister duo, Purva and Bhaumi Pathak turned to online classes when physical ones posed a threat due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Undeterred, Tabeer continues to share the joy of theatre with their students, and also produce online plays!

To give their students an extra push of motivation, they invited actor Shweta Tripathi Sharma, who enlightened them with an all-important motto for life: “Apne dreams itni zor se dekho ki doosron ko bhi dikhne lagein (Look at your dreams so intently, that they start becoming visible to others, too).”

The lovers and participants of theatre lay down a lot toward the art, but what the art lays down for them is an entirely different emotion –– maybe the stars at Tabeer could explain that to us.
