Going truly the slow fashion route is homegrown label Kokun India, a textile brand creating sustainable garments and promoting promote age old practices of textile making in a sustainable way. The label works with extracting colours from flowers, leaves, berries and roots and gives them a second life through their clothes.

kokūn essentially means to envelop in a protective or comforting way. The label seeks to create wholesome pieces which are an extension of nature. Envisioned by Mridu Mehra, who is passionate about creating wearable, low-impact, guilt free pieces, that are easy on the skin and the earth.

The Kokun ideology of life revolves around being resourceful and restorative by creating handcrafted pieces as opposed to mass produced garments. The designer channels her intuitive fashion language with organic techniques of slow stitching, zero waste and natural dyeing to churn ethically sourced garments. Our processes, take time and effort to implement and that limitation, also acts as an inspiration as it creates a new value system and makes you see colors the way you never see them before or rethink fashion. It makes you more conscious in the way you live, create and consume. “

Experimenting with everything nature has to offer, be it pigments found in the mud, in our kitchen/food waste, foraging responsibly for locally found plants in abundance like Neem, Aamla, Eucalyptus, the young designer also grows her own garden of plants and flowers like - Indigo, Butterfly pea, hibiscus, roses to create natural dyes and pigments for earthy silhouettes.
