The past few years have been an interesting time for Indian music producers. During the coronavirus-induced lockdown, some proved to us that it doesn’t take a studio to produce quality music and some others took to their cultural roots, embracing music from their homelands and amping it up with global-level productions. One such exciting artist of our times is math-teacher-turned-DJ and music producer Jai Singh Ranawat aka BODMAS, who is fusing Indian street folk and electronic music to create a new genre of his own.

His hit track ‘Camel Culture’ is what put him on the global music scene with EDM giants like Afrojack, Krewella, Yellow Claw, Wuki and JOYRYDE taking notice of him. A unique blend of Rajasthani folk and electronic music, the single reached over 100,000 listeners and was also featured at the London Indian Film Festival 2022 as the soundtrack for the festival’s trailer. It was also shared by acclaimed film director Anurag Kashyap.

Since his first single, his musical talent has been noticed globally. In a first, BODMAS released an official remix for Dutch Superstar DJ’s Yellow Claw, for their single ‘BASSGOD’ that was released on their official YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers under the‘1 Song 24 Drops’ project making him the very first Indian act to work with Yellow Claw. He has also produced over 30 tracks for various artists around the globe. One of them –– ‘Kirik Freestyle’ with BigPanda was featured on BBC Radio UK as the ‘Track of the Week’.

With many years of DJ experience under his belt, BODMAS has gained a reputation for putting on inimitable live performances that feature flawless transitions and supreme song selection. He has played some of the biggest stages in collaboration with VH1, Sunburn Festival, Enchanted Valley Carnival and performed energetic sets at various cult fests organized by over 30 college campuses in India such as IIM Shillong, IIT Ropar, Pecfest Chandigarh, and IIM Udaipur.

Following many years of different experiments in electronic music, the producer has created a new genre blend of folk and electronic. Next in line is his upcoming single ‘Desert Disco’ which is scheduled to release on 16 September 2022. Talking about the upcoming project, BODMAS said, “It’s a unique blend of Rajasthani folk and electronic music. My vision with the music is to make folk music enjoyable in a cool and modern way.”
