Envision a learning system that yearns to mould your kin, and shape their perspective in an altruist setting. A space that shifts way beyond the rigid ways of coercion, an educational system that paves a way for your kin to be protagonists in their own learning process. Envision schooling at The Atelier Bangalore, an avant - garde and an alternative approach to learning, a pedagogy inspired and adapted by The Reggio Emilia Approach. The Reggio Emilia way of schooling is deeply rooted in a holistic approach focused on preschool and primary education. Primarily composed and developed by Loris Malaguzzi, and a collection of parents who belonged to the village around Reggio Emilia in Italy. The core idea of this philosophy revolves around through the thought that – it is during the tenure of the early years of development that children gradually form who they are as individuals.

“Children need the freedom to appreciate the infinite resources of their hands, their eyes and their ears, the resources of forms. Materials, sounds and colours.” - Loris Malaguzzi

At Atelier, the main vision is deeply rooted in delivering a relatively ‘empowering’ and ‘liberating’ experience through education. The program follows and is based on relatively enduring virtues and principles of respect, responsibility and imbibes a deep sense of community. It makes use of a self-guided curriculum, fostering exploration and discovery in a nurturing environment, clearly indicative of their personal interests. A lot of the teaching and the instructions at these specialised learning establishments take place through interactive and symbiotic relationships formed. Giving them their own unique take on what they process through exploring, observing, hypothesising, questioning and discussing to clarify their own unique doubts and to understand and gain clarity of thought. The Altelier’s belief is that children absorb and learn best through meaningful experiences as well through social contexts. They partner with adults to gain better insight and understanding; alongside exploring possibilities. However, they still remain the sole trustee’s and the protagonists in their own unique learning experience.
